Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has filed for a direct listing and not an IPO (Initial Public Offering) to bring shares to the public market. For traditional investors who are beginning to warm up to the cryptocurrency space, Coinbase is a San Francisco-based company that launched in 2012. Founded by Fred Ersham and Brian Armstrong, the platform now has over 43 million users across the globe and has completed more than $456 billion in transactions to date, according to the company’s latest filing with the SEC.

Coinbase: cryptocurrency-based financial services to anyone with a smartphone

Coinbase is going after the mobile crypto users.

The company strives to bring cryptocurrency-based financial services to anyone with a smartphone, this represents a market size of 3.5 billion people. If Bitcoin, Ripple, or other cryptocurrencies achieve widespread adoption, the user base would likely multiply. When that happens, an early investment in Coinbase could be an asset with exponential growth potential.

From its filing, the company’s shares will trade under the ticker “COIN” on the Nasdaq. At the date of this post, no official date of the listing is available.

The company has already attracted a lot of attention, and the company’s shares are already trading on the Nasdaq Private Market. Unfortunately, this is not generally accessible on retail trading platforms.
